Transmission Manager

About the role

This full-time, exempt leadership role is ideal for an experienced electric utility professional who enjoys leading crews, solving field challenges and supporting employees, member-distribution cooperatives and strategic initiatives that help keep the transmission system safe and reliable.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the construction, maintenance and operation of electric transmission infrastructure
  • Plan and coordinate crew assignments, line work, inspections and maintenance activities
  • Develop and support programs that promote reliable service, economical operation and member satisfaction
  • Support a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with Cooperative procedures and applicable OSHA, EPA and other regulatory requirements
  • Supervise, train, mentor and evaluate transmission crews, including crew foremen and vegetation management activities
  • Help manage tools, equipment, materials, budget needs and department resources
  • Support apprentice development, mentoring and hands-on training opportunities
  • Work closely with the Substation Manager, other Engineering and Operations leaders, member-distribution cooperatives, contractors, landowners, suppliers and the public

Requirements

  • Associate degree plus ten (10) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Ten (10) years of work experience in an electric utility transmission system as a Journeyman Lineman, Engineer or in a comparable technical role, equivalent experience may be considered
  • Experience supervising, training, mentoring and motivating personnel
  • Thorough knowledge of electric transmission systems, RUS specifications, construction practices, safety procedures and standard operating procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work professionally with all levels of the Cooperative, as well as contractors, landowners, suppliers and the public
  • Working knowledge of computers and proficiency with Microsoft Office products
  • Availability to be on-call after normal work hours and provide backup assistance to crews as needed
  • Ability to lift and/or carry up to eighty (80) pounds and work in field conditions, including adverse weather
  • Current Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement, or ability to obtain required licensing
