About the role
The Transmission Line Section Manager at HDR is responsible for managing and executing the engineering and design components of high voltage Transmission Line projects up to 500kV. They work closely with a project manager to ensure technical execution while supporting business development and client relationships.
Responsibilities
- Develops a partnership with the PM, focusing on technical execution.
- Develops and implements a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.
- Assigns project tasks and provides technical guidance to project team members.
- Participates in Client Development Planning and Execution.
- Grows the Transmission practice through business development and strengthens client relationships.
- Supports the technical aspects of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
- Coordinates and/or performs quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables according to HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements.
- Performs quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams as needed.
- Works independently and may direct, mentor, train, and/or supervise one or more Project Engineers, EIT’s, or CADD/Designers.
- Leads multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
- Identifies and develops specific technical expertise, attends training and seminars, and assists with developing technical papers and presentations.
- Attends project reviews as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Engineering.
- Professional registration, license, or certification may be required based on role.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in technical transmission line projects up to 500kV.
- Conceptual knowledge of routing, environmental permitting, right of way acquisition, PLS-CADD modeling, steel and wood structure design, foundation design, material procurement, specifications, and construction support.
- Experience with distribution line design and/or steel lattice tower modeling and design.
- Strong track record of growing a Transmission practice and developing client relationships.
- Experience using industry standard design software.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms.
- Ability to handle multiple assignments, good leadership and organizational skills.
- Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Previous consulting firm experience desired.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Some travel may be required.
Qualifications
- BS degree in Engineering.
- PE license.
