About the role
HDR Engineering is seeking a Transmission Line Project Engineer in Chicago, Illinois. This role involves technical execution of high voltage electrical transmission line projects, working closely with the Project Manager to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and meet HDR and client quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Leads overall technical direction of projects.
- Schedules and implements work breakdown structures, manages change requests, and oversees project timelines.
- Budgets for proposal development, progress assessments, and change management.
- Manages multiple projects simultaneously, leading teams across different locations.
- Supports scheduling and conducts quality reviews for all deliverables.
- Participates in quality control and project reviews for peers and other project teams.
- Coordinates with operations leaders and Project Managers for resource planning and management.
- Works independently as required, directing, mentoring, training, and supervising junior engineers and designers.
- Participates in a mentoring/training relationship with one or more junior engineers or designers.
Requirements
- Experience with overhead transmission line design and construction from 69kV thru 500kV preferred.
- Experience using PLS-CADD, structure analysis, project cost estimates, plan and profile preparation, load and designs, specifications and drawings, and other engineering documents required for power transmission line projects.
- National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) knowledge.
- Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with an engineering consulting firm.
Pay
The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Illinois: $88,704 - $126,720
