About the role

HDR Engineering is seeking a Transmission Line Project Engineer in Chicago, Illinois. This role involves working alongside experienced engineers and scientists to develop and maintain high-voltage electrical transmission lines. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading technical aspects of projects, managing budgets, and ensuring quality standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Leads overall technical direction of projects.
  • Schedules and implements work breakdown structures, manages change requests, and oversees project timelines.
  • Supports budgeting efforts, including proposal development, progress assessments, and change management.
  • Coordinates with operations leaders and project managers for resource allocation and management.
  • Directs, mentors, trains, and supervises junior engineers and designers.
  • Participates in quality control and project reviews, ensuring adherence to HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Experience with PLS-CADD, structure analysis, project cost estimates, plan and profile preparation, load and designs, specifications and drawings.
  • National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) knowledge.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with overhead transmission line design and construction from 69kV thru 500kV.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Power Market Sector design software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Qualifications

  • Must have a strong understanding and implementation of HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS).
  • Must have experience leading multiple projects concurrently.
  • Must have experience with overhead transmission line design and construction from 69kV thru 500kV.
  • Must have previous experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
  • Must have experience using PLS-CADD, structure analysis, project cost estimates, plan and profile preparation, load and designs, specifications and drawings.
  • Must have National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) knowledge.

Skills

  • Strong leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Power Market Sector design software.
  • Experience with overhead transmission line design and construction from 69kV thru 500kV.

Pay

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location. For Illinois, the range is $88,320 - $127,600.
