About the role
PNM is seeking a Transmission Lines Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in engineering, particularly in transmission routes and lines, and will be responsible for a variety of tasks including route design, project coordination, and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Design transmission routes and lines including structure types, configurations, and profile
- Review design packages for accuracy
- Resolve emergent issues on transmission line construction projects and failures
- Perform lightning studies and interpret or peer review results
- Create bill of materials and equipment lists for transmission line construction projects
- Work with original equipment manufacturers and vendors to identify offerings and relate them to PNM project needs
- Calculate facilities ratings based on material properties, configurations, and ambient conditions
- Identify required outages and clearance points for transmission line projects
- Perform field inspections and verifications for projects and delivered material
- Communicate engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse internal and external audiences
- Apply engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards and new technology solutions
Requirements
The successful candidate should have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Four or more years of relevant engineering experience, or a combination of three years with a Fundamentals of Engineering certificate and two years of engineering experience
- Experience with PLSCADD, PLS-POL, MFAD, and SAG10 software
- Knowledge of national, state, and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)
- Ability to work safely in high-voltage environments up to 345kV
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution
- Minimum of four years of engineering experience
- Experience with PLSCADD, PLS-POL, MFAD, and SAG10 software
- Knowledge of national, state, and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)
- Ability to work safely in high-voltage environments up to 345kV
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
- Proficiency with PLSCADD, PLS-POL, MFAD, and SAG10 software
- Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, MFAD, and SAG10 software and estimating experience preferred
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply national, state, and local codes and standards
- Ability to translate electrical theory and physics to utility application for improving system reliability
- Ability to make informed repair decisions following company protocols
- Comfortable working in and around high voltage (up to 345kV) electrical facilities and equipment
- Ability to forecast budgets
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
