About the role

Our US work group has an opportunity for a Transmission Line Engineer. This individual will sit in any of Stantec’s US offices and will assist in the preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings, and scope documents for construction tenders and contracts. They will coordinate and direct design engineers and technical staff to ensure successful project execution and timely completion. The role involves writing and editing technical reports and engineering studies, liaising with clients and contractors, and managing various disciplines and permitting agencies. There is an opportunity to work on a variety of projects and advance career paths within the Power Delivery sector.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings, and scope documents for construction tenders and contracts.
  • Coordinate and direct design engineers and technical staff to ensure successful project execution and timely completion.
  • Write and edit technical reports and engineering studies.
  • Act as a liaison with clients and contractors, coordinating with various disciplines and permitting agencies.
  • Contribute to a diverse company, bridging the gaps between different sectors of infrastructure engineering.

Requirements

  • Self-motivated individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, manage others, and meet client expectations.
  • Complete skillsets in modeling transmission lines using PLS suite, preparing route alignments, creating plan and profile drawings, performing structural analysis, and detailing hardware assemblies and conductors.
  • Experience with lattice towers, familiarity with electrical studies like EMF, fault current, grounding, contaminants study, and clearance analysis, and extensive knowledge of wood, concrete, steel, FRP, and lattice transmission structures.
  • Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, L-Pile, MFAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of project management systems and field construction support, with a willingness to develop these skills further.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain difficult engineering solutions clearly to clients and internal team members.
  • Familiarity with industry standards regarding transmission lines, including ASCE, ACI, IEEE, NESC, RUS Bulletins, and GO-95.

Credentials

  • PE preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design of overhead and underground high voltage and extra high voltage transmission lines, including route selection, line and structure spotting, structure design and analysis, and development of construction bid packages (underground transmission design experience is a plus).
