Transmission Line Engineer
About the Role
MasTec Power Delivery companies engineer and construct efficient and reliable electrical transmission, distribution, and substation & switchyard systems. As a Transmission Line Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering and design of high-voltage electrical transmission line systems, applying principles of both electrical and civil engineering to develop safe, reliable, constructible, and cost-effective solutions. This role supports the full lifecycle of transmission line projects, from initial design development and engineering analysis through detailed design, documentation, material takeoffs, and constructability review.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience designing overhead transmission lines, with the ability to work on projects involving transmission systems up to 500 kV. You will collaborate closely with project management, engineering disciplines, Sales, customers, and field personnel to ensure designs meet project requirements, applicable industry standards, schedule and budget objectives, and customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Develop cost-effective, reliable, and constructible high-voltage transmission line designs.
- Perform transmission routing, conductor selection, structure spotting, structure determination, plan and profile development, and material takeoffs.
- Support structure and foundation design and utilize PLS-CADD and other engineering software.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, design documents, specifications, and project deliverables.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable NESC, IEEE, ASCE, ACI, ANSI, and project-specific requirements.
- Perform and support transmission line constructability reviews.
- Monitor engineering progress to support project schedules, budgets, and customer expectations.
- Provide technical guidance and coordination to engineers, designers, and project team members.
- Represent Engineering in internal meetings and collaborate with Sales, customers, project management, and other disciplines.
- Support proposals, estimates, customer discussions, site visits, and construction-related activities as needed.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on transmission line engineering and design experience.
- Experience working in an EPC environment preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of overhead transmission line engineering and design.
- Experience with transmission routing, conductor selection, structure spotting, plan/profile development, and material takeoffs.
- Familiarity with transmission structure and foundation design.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD or similar transmission design software.
- Knowledge of NESC, IEEE, ASCE, ACI, and ANSI standards.
- Strong understanding of transmission line constructability and construction practices.
- Ability to interpret and develop engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong analytical, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
