Transmission Line Design Engineer

About the role

This role requires working experience using PLS-CADD and will be responsible for developing, designing, analyzing, and evaluating transmission line additions and modifications.

Qualifications

• Four-year accredited Engineering Degree (Engineers)
• Four-year engineering/engineering technology degree (Technical Specialists)
• 2- or 4-year drafting/design degree or certification (Designers)
• 3+ years' experience in Transmission Line Engineering and PLS-CADD
• Ability to perform in a high-paced, multi-task environment and to independently plan and organize work schedule
• Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to effectively interact with project teams, customers, other utilities, and government agencies
• Knowledge of engineering theories, principles, standards, codes, concepts, and their application to problem solutions
• Strong computer skills and application of pre-packaged software programs
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Willingness to make effective business decisions based on analysis and abstract thinking
• Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and prioritize work based on customer need

Responsibilities

• Provide conceptual scoping, design, and estimates for high-voltage transmission line projects, including but not limited to building new lines, rebuilding and modifying existing facilities, fiber installations, and customer relocations
• Apply engineering theories, principles, and practices that contribute to safe, reliable, and cost-effective transmission line designs
• Provide conceptual analysis and evaluation of high-voltage electric transmission line facilities
• Select the most cost-effective solution to achieve desired reliability for a given project
• Support projects through the State Cooperation Commission application process
• Interface with other departments or groups such as Project Management, Construction, Supply Chain, Permitting & Route Selection, Real Estate, Right of Way Administration, and Transmission O&M
