Role Summary

This position provides design, engineering and technical expertise for transmission lines. Applicants must be familiar with transmission line engineering theories and principles, possess advanced skills, and be able to work independently with limited guidance on unusual or complex projects. They are fully competent in engineering concepts and procedures, identifying problems, developing solutions, and taking action to resolve issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical expertise in transmission line design, analyzing scenarios, evaluating options, and performing design calculations to meet standards, codes, and sound engineering practices.
  • Support transmission line routing and siting, create conceptual designs and cost estimates, and perform detailed design of structures, foundations, and electrical components.
  • Offer construction support, oversight, and related activities, including on‑site troubleshooting and problem resolution.
  • Identify, analyze, and resolve complex problems in transmission line design, preparing thorough job packages, technical reports, correspondence, calculations, and drawings.
  • Conduct engineering studies and complete non‑routine projects with minimal oversight, managing schedules and interfaces independently.
  • Plan, organize, estimate, execute, and monitor work activities to achieve project and business goals.
  • Modify designs to address construction issues, environmental conditions, and public concerns.
  • Make informed decisions impacting major projects or departmental results.
  • Apply fundamental engineering concepts, practices, and procedures, handling assignments of increasing complexity.
  • Develop positive working relationships to coordinate activities effectively.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and maintain accurate records and files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer; a Master’s degree may be considered in lieu of the bachelor’s.
  • Minimum of 8 years of engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer licensure.
  • Experience in the utility industry.
  • At least 2 years of experience in transmission line design.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in transmission line design theories and principles.
  • Experience with transmission line design software (e.g., PLS‑CADD, PLS‑TOWER, PLS‑POLE, MFAD).
  • Strong engineering theory knowledge and ability to apply principles to solve problems.
  • Familiarity with applicable design codes and standards.
  • Ability to research solutions, evaluate alternatives, make sound recommendations, and present them effectively.
  • Collaboration skills with individuals from diverse socio‑economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.

Employment Details

  • Full‑time, hybrid position (3 days per week in office/field).
  • Location: Charlotte, NC.
  • Duration: 12 months.
  • Personal vehicle will be used; mileage reimbursed.
