Transmission EPC Project Engineering Lead
About the role
The Transmission EPC Project Engineering Lead will play a crucial role in shaping the future of power transmission infrastructure. This position is part of the HDR Power Delivery Practice and focuses on collaborative delivery models such as Design-Build (DB)/Progressive Design-Build (PDB), Engineer-Procure-Construct (EPC), Construction Manager-General Contractor (CMGC)/Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD).
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Pursuit Champion / Manager on Transmission EPC projects.
- Ensure a clear transition of scope, schedule, and budget expectations once the project is awarded.
- Facilitate discussions on technical risk analysis and mitigation, preliminary routing, and design, and bill-of-material takeoff support.
- Offer value engineering and constructability solutions.
- Lead HDR scope, schedule, and budget development with a focus on AD project-specific activities and risks.
- Coordinate with land survey, geotechnical, distribution, substation, environmental, real estate, and geographic information system (GIS) staff.
- Estimate technical investments prior to the Go/No-Go discussion and share risk evaluations with relevant leaders.
- Interface with construction contractors and HDR subconsultants during pursuit and project phases.
- Assist in Go/No-Go discussions, project risk assessments, SOQs, proposals, interviews, and negotiations.
- Work with power delivery and operations leadership to build out FEED teams.
- Support project technical leadership roles, including engineering manager, discipline lead, technical advisor, or other.
- Develop templates, standards, specifications, drawings, processes, and procedures for transmission line EPC pursuits and projects.
- Provide EPC best practice guidance to pursuit and project delivery teams.
- Perform team development, mentorship, and leadership activities, including project management, engineering management, and discipline-specific practitioner roles.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in transmission design.
- Minimum 5 years of experience building and leading engineering teams on EPC projects.
- Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, MFAD, and LPILE.
- Experience developing engineering scope, schedule, and budget estimates on EPC projects.
- Experience with transmission line design, procurement, and construction, including estimating, engineering design, procurement, and construction specifications.
- Experience with value engineering solutions and discussions with material vendors and subcontractors.
- Experience with pole design, foundation design, and environmental, real estate, and GIS teams.
- Strong leadership skills and engineering management experience with multiple remote teams.
- Excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms.
- Up to 20% travel required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering, or closely related field.
- 10 years of experience in related fields.
- Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience.
- Works cooperatively with other business class regional directors, operations managers, technical directors, and marketing managers on business class efforts.
- Committed to quality, improvement, and HDR values.
