About the role

HDR is seeking a national Transmission EPC Project Engineering Lead within our Power Delivery Practice to be part of our national Alternative Delivery (AD) Leadership Team. This role focuses on driving collaboration between HDR’s global power delivery staff and our construction teaming partners, managing technical bid development, estimating, and project transitions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Pursuit Champion / Manager on Transmission EPC projects.
  • Transition management duties to Project Manager and execution team once project is awarded.
  • Ensure clear scope, schedule, and budget expectations are communicated.
  • Facilitate discussions on technical risk analysis and mitigation, preliminary routing, and design.
  • Support bill-of-material takeoffs and offer value engineering solutions.
  • Lead HDR scope, schedule, and budget development for AD projects.
  • Coordinate with land survey, geotechnical, distribution, substation, environmental, real estate, and GIS teams.
  • Estimate technical investments and prepare for Go/No-Go discussions.
  • Assist in Go/No-Go discussions, project risk assessments, SOQs, proposals, interviews, and negotiations.
  • Build out FEED teams and assist in project technical leadership roles.
  • Develop templates, standards, specifications, drawings, processes, and procedures for transmission line EPC pursuits and projects.
  • Provide EPC best practice guidance to pursuit and project delivery teams.
  • Perform team development, mentorship, and leadership activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in transmission design.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience building and leading engineering teams on EPC projects.
  • Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, MFAD, and LPILE.
  • Experience developing engineering scope, schedule, and budget estimates on EPC projects.
  • Experience with transmission line routing, structure spotting, material selection, wire sagging, and foundation plans.
  • Experience offering value engineering solutions and working with environmental, real estate, and GIS teams.
  • Strong leadership skills and engineering management experience with multiple remote teams.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional 5 years of experience in transmission line design and construction.
  • Experience with battery energy storage systems and data centers.
  • Experience with integrated project delivery (IPD) and construction manager-general contractor (CMGC) models.
