Transmission EPC Project Engineering Lead
About the role
The successful candidate will lead HDR’s pursuit and execution of transmission EPC projects, collaborating with HDR’s global power delivery staff and construction teaming partners. They will manage technical bid development, estimating, and project transitions, ensuring clear scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the Pursuit Champion / Manager on Transmission EPC projects.
- Transition management duties to Project Manager and execution team once project is awarded.
- Ensure a clear transition of scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Facilitate discussions on technical risk analysis and mitigation, preliminary routing and design, and bill-of-material takeoff support.
- Offer value engineering and constructability solutions.
- Lead HDR scope, schedule, and budget development with a focus on AD project-specific activities and risks.
- Work with land survey, geotechnical, distribution, substation, environmental, real estate, and GIS staff.
- Estimate technical investments prior to Go/No-Go discussions.
- Risk evaluation will be shared with commercial, business development, and operations leaders to determine if/how to pursue opportunities.
- Interface with construction contractors and HDR subconsultants during pursuit and project phases.
- Avoid handover of projects until FEED teams are built out.
- Support FEED development and project team stand-up.
- Develop templates, standards, specifications, drawings, processes, and procedures for transmission line EPC pursuits and projects.
- Provide EPC best practice guidance to pursuit and project delivery teams.
- Perform team development, mentorship, and leadership functions.
- Assist in Go/No-Go discussions, project risk assessments, SOQs, proposals, interviews, and negotiations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineering License.
- Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Minimum 10 years of experience in transmission design.
- Minimum 5 years of experience building and leading engineering teams on EPC projects.
- Proficient in PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, PLS-Tower, MFAD, and LPILE.
- Experience developing engineering scope, schedule, and budget estimates on EPC projects.
- Experience developing EPC design and construction packages.
- Specific experience performing all aspects of transmission line design, procurement, and construction.
- Strong leadership skills and engineering management experience with multiple remote teams.
- Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills.
- Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and conferencing platforms.

Pay
Expected compensation range based on skills, experience, education, and geographical location: $160,090 - $228,700.
Schedule
Up to 20% travel may be required.
