About the role

The Transmission Engineer IV will function as the responsible engineer on assigned Transmission Line Projects, providing overall project coordination and civil/structural technical leadership for project teams. This role also includes providing technical guidance and training to junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering work using intensive knowledge and experience in evaluating, selecting, modifying, and applying standard techniques, procedures, and criteria for projects of varying size and high complexity, including:
    • Preliminary design, budgetary estimating, and scheduling
    • Detailed design, estimating, and scheduling
    • Equipment specification, proposal evaluation, and requisitioning
    • Engineering calculations to assure safety and performance of equipment and systems
    • Selection and application of appropriate engineering matters, equipment, and systems
    • Interdisciplinary interface for constructability and conformance to project requirements
    • Coordinating design engineering and equipment delivery to meet construction schedules
    • Acquisition of on-site measurements and other data to accomplish design or evaluate equipment performance
  • Check completed jobs for quality, adequacy of design, and documentation
  • Create and/or present training materials for junior staff
  • Assist in standard process development and template creation for efficiency in design
  • Monitor the construction of various electrical systems to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, including:
    • Monitoring construction work for conformance with plans and specifications
    • Ensuring compliance with applicable engineering and construction codes and practices
    • Monitoring construction schedules to ensure timely completion
    • Directing changes to the work as requested by the Project Engineer
    • Aiding in evaluation and approval of contractor's invoices
    • Aiding in receiving, inspection, and approval of equipment and materials
    • Acting as Project Engineer on projects of moderate to large size and complexity
  • Perform complex studies and economic analyses of engineering alternatives
  • Prepare reports and feasibility studies for submission to Management
  • Provide budget and schedule information to the Project Manager and Management
  • Serve as Project Engineer on assigned projects
  • Be proficient with the Company’s design, construction, QA/QC, and safety standards, and document control system
  • Apply national and local standards (e.g., ANSI/IEEE, National Electric Safety Code, ASTM, AIC)
  • Promote complete and accurate record keeping and ensure the quality of all work performed
  • Stay informed of current developments in areas of responsibility
  • Assist in the professional development, training, and evaluation of department personnel
  • Travel to support work as required
  • Perform other duties as required

Requirements

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or equivalent
  • 8+ years of experience in the transmission engineering field
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license preferred
  • Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling for computer-aided design, including:
    • PLS-CADD and associated modules (POLE, TOWER)
    • Excel
    • MFAD or Lpile
    • NESC
  • Knowledge of ACI, ASCE Pole manual, and AISC Steel manual preferred
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and practices for electric utility work
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to lead
  • Attention to detail

Pay

Salary range: USD $117,000.00 – USD $169,000.00 per year.
