Transmission Engineer III

About the role
TRC Power Delivery offers a full range of design and planning services for virtually any transmission or communication line project. With transmission line experience of up to 500kV and ongoing fiber-optic communication projects completed nationwide, TRC Power Delivery is well-equipped to handle any linear project.
Responsibilities
- Design or assist in the design of various transmission and distribution line projects, including:
- Preliminary design and budgetary estimate for projects ranging from 115kV to 500kV (new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic attachment).
- Develop material lists in Excel spreadsheets.
- Develop structure framing details, specifying all parts, hardware, insulators, and grounding details for different pole materials (steel, round wood, or laminated wood).
- Coordinate environmental and licensing processes within the transmission line design process.
- Site new transmission lines and assess impacts of real estate, licensing, and environmental constraints.
- Develop project schedules incorporating design, client reviews, licensing, and other activities for successful completion.
- Develop plan and profile drawings.
- Create complete design packages including work lists, construction staking tables, stringing sag charts, etc.
- Develop material and construction specifications.
- Perform engineering calculations to ensure safety and performance of equipment and systems.
- Coordinate equipment delivery and design engineering to meet construction schedules.
- Assist in checking completed jobs for adequacy of design and documentation.
- Monitor the construction of transmission line projects to ensure compliance with plans and specifications, including:
- Act as Resident Engineer on projects.
- Interpret complex plans and specifications to ensure project design requirements are met.
- Maintain familiarity with engineering and construction codes to ensure compliance.
- Assist in preparation and monitoring of complex construction schedules.
- Assist in on-site design or investigation work to ensure adequacy of contractor’s methods.
- Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in electrical transmission line design engineering.
- Proficiency with Power Line and Structure modeling for computer-aided design (PLSCADD and associated modules such as POLE, TOWER), Excel, MFAD, or L-PILE, NESC.
- Knowledge of ACI, ASCE Pole manual, AISC Steel manual preferred.
- Familiarity with industry codes, standards, and practices for electric utility work.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to lead.
- Attention to detail.
Qualifications
P.E. preferred, with the ability to be certified as a professional engineer as soon as eligible.

Pay
Salary Range: USD $93,000.00 - USD $149,000.00 per year.
Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators.
