About the role
This contracted role involves accurately translating a variety of special education documents from English into Spanish (or other languages when needed). The position ensures families whose primary language is not English have equitable access to critical information regarding their child’s educational evaluations, progress, and services. Translations are completed outside of regular working hours on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities
- Translate special education documents such as evaluation reports, eligibility determinations, meeting notices, progress reports, amendments, parental rights notices, and other related materials.
- Ensure translations are accurate, clear, and culturally responsive while maintaining the original meaning and intent.
- Review and edit translated documents for grammar, readability, and consistency.
- Handle translations with confidentiality, in accordance with privacy laws and policies.
- Complete document translations within required timelines (within two weeks of receipt) to support compliance with legal deadlines.
- Submit completed translations and invoices to the Director of Special Education or designated department head for approval.
Requirements
- Proven experience translating special education documents.
- Proficiency in English and Spanish (native or near-native fluency) required.
- Familiarity with special education documents, terminology, and the educational process.
- Strong written communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to work outside of regular working hours to translate documents as needed.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to handle student records with a high level of confidentiality and sensitivity.
Pay
$30.00 per page, billable in ¼ page increments. A page is defined as an 8.5 x 11” page in English with 12-point, single-spaced text.
