Transitions Maintenance Technician
General Function
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and performing preventative maintenance on a wide range of manufacturing, facilities, and R&D equipment throughout the TOI facility. This role ensures machinery reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports the overall efficiency of production operations. The technician will work closely with engineering and operations to address equipment issues and keep production assets in optimal working condition.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Aid in development and execution of an equipment preventive maintenance program
- Respond to breakdowns skilfully, efficiently, and safely
- Use technical drawings, manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues
- Assist with and manage small projects aimed at improving equipment reliability and efficiency
- Support the design and implementation of electromechanical systems as requested
- Clearly communicate and document activities
- Provide technical support for Operations, Engineering and R&D activities
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, LOTO procedures, and equipment-specific safety requirements and immediately act to address unsafe conditions or practices
- Perform safety/housekeeping activities/audits as needed
- Participate in disaster recovery & emergency preparedness
- Liaise with external contractors as needed
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and ensure spare parts/tools are properly managed
- Occasional support on off-shifts, holidays or weekends as required
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Machine safety expertise
- 3-6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment within facility, maintenance, or engineering roles
- Technical understanding and familiarity with electro-mechanical control systems and manufacturing facility equipment (PLCs, robotics, sensors, air compressors, water filtration, HVAC, process exhaust, etc.)
- Strong interpersonal skills; the ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization and contractors. Collaborative work style, strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
- Ability to manage complexity, plan and organize, influence decisions and actions, and a willingness to take responsibility
- Proficient with MS Office
- Ability to work around various chemicals, able to lift 10 lbs. occasionally and up to 50 lbs. infrequently
- Knowledge in the safe use of shop equipment, hand tools and operation of electromechanical equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- AS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- BMS experience
- Familiarity with OEE, TPM, and lean manufacturing concepts
- Coating process and/or clean room technology experience
- Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
