About the role

This position serves students aged 18-21 in the Community Campus Transition Program in the Behavior Classroom @ Structured Teach housed in the Axtell Park Building.

Responsibilities

  • Ability to Plan and Prepare Instructional Tasks
  • Prepare activities in the classroom and in the community that provide opportunities for the students to practice the generalization of their behavior skills to new environments, settings, and people
  • Provide Effective Instruction to Students
  • Maintain a strong instructional focus utilizing the elements of effective instruction
  • Communicate, teach, model, and practice high levels of expectation in the classroom and in the community
  • Conduct ongoing assessments for measuring student's progress of learning
  • Provide Effective Classroom Environment
  • Follow District and building policies and procedures
  • Support of District Priorities
  • Collaborate with classroom and behavior support team to ensure skill instruction is student specific and focused on preparing the student for aging out and accessing future adult programming
  • Participate in ongoing professional growth
  • Participate in yearly physical management trainings that focus on deescalation strategies and physical management
  • Participate in school/professional and/or community organizations or events
  • Complete routine assigned tasks and comply with District requirements
  • Promote the education profession
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues, parents and students
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences in accordance with District policy

Requirements

  • Education Level: Bachelor's degree and endorsements in the areas of teaching assignment.
  • Certification: Current, valid South Dakota teacher certificate or eligibility for certification.
  • Experience Desired: Successful student teaching. Experience teaching students with behavioral challenges.
  • Physical Requirements: The ability to provide physical management to students with behavior or self-care needs. Constant hand-eye and mind-eye coordination and hearing; intermittent speaking, standing, walking and writing.
  • Other Requirements: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management. Knowledge of teaching techniques that meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities who demonstrate significant behavioral needs. Skills in computer word-processing, spreadsheets and databases. Knowledge in implementation of IEP process and special education law. Able to assess and interpret information. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation as well as current auto insurance.

Pay

  • Starting at $53,981 to $60,793 per year, based on experience.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
  • 1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week, 9 months
