About the role
Assess, monitor, evaluate, and assist students with a variety of disabilities by supporting appropriate vocational and community activities as developed by the IEP teams. This position supports students with significant support needs in the community and in a school setting, including providing routine assistance with toileting, feeding, bathing, and specific medical needs. The work schedule is 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, and you will be required to drive a District vehicle.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate vocational tasks at job training sites and provide job coaching and follow-up support.
- Assist employers with supporting students' rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Model and instruct effective vocational, interpersonal, consumer, mobility, domestic, and safety skills.
- Train students in positive living skills by analyzing tasks, providing appropriate cues, and planning for "fading" supervision of student activity.
- Provide mobility training so students can access public facilities and public transportation.
- Provide training and guidance within the guidelines established by each student's Individual Education and Transition plans.
- Safely transport students, including driving bus routes, monitoring behavior, and ensuring student safety.
- Assist with loading and unloading students, including those with special needs and wheelchair users.
- Ensure proper use of seatbelts, safety vests, and other required safety devices.
- Monitor students for suspected child abuse, sexual harassment, bullying, bodily fluids cleanup, and medical conditions.
- Perform daily pre- and post-trip bus inspections in accordance with Federal and State regulations.
- Maintain interior and exterior cleanliness of the bus, including mirrors, windows, and fueling vehicles.
- Collect data and complete reports on students' progress and needs.
- Work with special education staff to create and enhance student learning opportunities and develop Individual Education and Transition plans.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Monitor and evaluate students' health and personal needs, including assistance with toileting, feeding, bathing, and specific medical needs.
- Perform clerical duties, including typing, data entry, filing, and mailing.
- Attend meetings and training sessions, including in-services, driver meetings, first aid, and CPR classes.
- Assist students with alternative communication systems and/or adaptive equipment and technology.
- Provide training and education to community members, employers, and coworkers on alternative communication systems and adaptive equipment.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; post-secondary courses in liberal arts or education preferred.
- Experience working with students with special needs in an education environment preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Valid Colorado driver's license.
- Obtain a Non-CDL Small Vehicle Route operator's license within 30 days of hire.
- CPR and First Aid certifications required within 3 months of hire.
- CPI/Safety Care training certification required within 3 months of hire.
- Universal Precautions training required within 3 months of hire.
- Successful completion of a Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical required for hire.
- Criminal background check and Motor Vehicle Record submission required for hire.
Pay
Hourly pay range: $24.14 - $30.51 (Grade G12, Step 1 - Step 9). Newly hired classified employees start at Step 1. Final placement depends on previous work experience.
Schedule
- 35 standard hours per week.
- 0.875 FTE (9 months per year).
- Work hours: 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.
