Transit Vehicle Servicer ($750 Hiring Incentive)

About the Role

Service, clean, and perform minor maintenance on motor vehicles in support of mechanics. Clean and maintain work areas and vehicle service records. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug/alcohol testing.

Responsibilities

• Service, clean, and perform minor maintenance, repairs, and adjustments on gasoline, diesel, and alternative-fueled automobiles, motor coaches, and vehicles.
• Operate a variety of motor vehicles and motor coaches; transport vehicles to and from locations within assigned department operations; drive through the bus wash.
• Maintain records of fuel, oils, coolant, vehicle mileage, charging data, and other maintenance records.
• Inspect vehicles for damage and defects; move vehicles into maintenance bays, fueling stations, battery charging stations, or parking areas.
• Check and adjust vehicle fluid levels to ensure proper operating levels.
• Fuel, check, and replenish lubricants for automotive, motor coach, and paratransit equipment at appropriate maintenance intervals.
• Perform custodial duties and assist building maintenance staff for all transit facilities.
• Connect electric vehicles to charging stations and monitor the charging process; disconnect upon completion.
• Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
• Assist in general maintenance and cleaning of the automotive shop area.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED; vocational training in mechanical repair or general mechanical maintenance experience is preferred.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
• Possession of a valid City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six months of hire.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B with Passenger (P) endorsement within six weeks of completing City training; must maintain CDL once obtained.
• Must successfully complete Maintenance training.
• Must provide a current driving record.

Preferred Knowledge & Skills

• Basic operational characteristics of automotive and heavy equipment.
• Basic automotive troubleshooting principles.
• Basic theory of operation of automatic and manual transmissions.
• General automotive maintenance and standard safety practices.
• Ability to service, clean, and perform minor maintenance on City motor vehicles and motor coaches.
• Ability to perform minor adjustments on gasoline and diesel engines.
• Ability to inspect vehicles for damage and defects.
• Ability to maintain records of vehicle maintenance performed.
• Ability to perform lubrication and routine servicing of automotive and heavy equipment.
• Ability to work independently and communicate clearly and concisely.
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Working Conditions

• Shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, cleaning chemicals, and heavy construction equipment.
• Exposure to outdoor elements such as sun, rain, snow, and wind.
• Physical demands include light to heavy lifting and carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, standing for prolonged periods, and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
