About the role

The Transit Tech (Part Time Only) position at the University of Georgia provides basic to intermediate-level mechanical repairs on transit buses as assigned by the supervisor. The position also involves removing and replacing broken components on diesel/electric buses, completing assigned work orders, ensuring work progress is approved before starting the next task, assisting FT technicians with scheduled preventative maintenance, and keeping the work area safe and clean.

Responsibilities

  • Provides basic to intermediate-level mechanical repairs on transit buses as assigned by the supervisor. (50%)
  • Remove and replace broken components on diesel/electric buses as assigned by the supervisor. (20%)
  • Complete assigned work orders and submit them to the supervisor for approval. Complete all necessary training as required. (15%)
  • Ensure work progress is approved before starting the next task. (5%)
  • Assist FT technicians with scheduled preventative maintenance. (5%)
  • Keep the work area safe and clean. (5%)

Requirements

To be considered for this position, candidates must submit to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with USDOT regulations. They should demonstrate the ability to maintain heavy-duty diesel vehicles, troubleshoot and repair complex systems such as electrical and electronics systems, climate control systems, diesel engines and transmissions. The successful candidate will provide their own tools.

Physical Demands

Heavy lifting, work in confined spaces, stooping, kneeling, standing on ladders and work platforms will be involved.
