Overview

This action research explores transformational leadership (TL) perspectives from graduate students at a small private Canadian university regarding their work experience in South-Asian organizations.

Participants completed a questionnaire focusing on various attributes of transformational leadership, specifically the leadership styles they experienced in their organizations. Content analysis was used to synthesize the findings.

Key Findings

  • South-Asian organizations demonstrated a stronger focus on profit generation and goal accomplishment rather than collaboration aimed at transforming individuals and organizations.
  • Employee motivation was lacking due to leaders not being inspirational or appreciative of employees’ work.
  • South-Asian leaders showed little concern for employee well-being and engaged in unfair treatment practices.

Recommendations

  • Organizations should foster open communication and feedback, encouraging employees to voice concerns about management, leadership styles, or other factors.

Future Research

A quantitative study could be conducted to generate statistical data, further elaborating on the percentage of dissatisfied employees working in South-Asian organizations.
