Transfer Support Specialist
About the role
The Transfer Student Support Specialist serves as a key contributor to SUNY's system-wide transfer, articulation, and student success initiatives. The position is responsible for supporting transfer students, campus personnel, and SUNY System Administration offices through the implementation, coordination, and continuous improvement of transfer-related programs, policies, and technologies. Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Transfer and Articulation, the Transfer Student Support Specialist works collaboratively with colleagues across SUNY campuses, System Administration, SICAS, ITEC, and other stakeholders to advance a SUNY-wide transfer and articulation framework. The position serves as a primary resource for student-facing transfer services, front-line transfer policy implementation support, transfer technology support, and the resolution of transfer-related issues impacting student success. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in transfer advising, transfer credit evaluation, articulation, student information systems, and higher education operations while maintaining a strong commitment to student-centered service and continuous process improvement.
Responsibilities
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of SUNY-wide transfer and articulation initiatives.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for students, faculty, and staff regarding transfer-related services, policies, and procedures.
- Provide guidance and problem resolution for students and campuses regarding transfer credit evaluation, transfer pathways, articulation agreements, and related concerns.
- Support evolving centralized transfer equivalency processes through the administration and ongoing enhancement of the SUNY Transfer Articulation Database and related transfer technologies.
- Coordinate and support SUNY-wide transfer initiatives, including Reverse Transfer, Cross-Registration, Transfer Appeals, and other student mobility programs.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and assessment of student-facing tools, resources, and communication strategies designed to improve the transfer student experience.
- Collaborate with SUNY System Administration offices, SICAS, ITEC, and campus stakeholders to identify business needs, improve processes, and support technology enhancements.
- Research and analyze transfer-related issues, trends, policies, and best practices to inform system-wide initiatives and recommendations.
- Develop and deliver training materials, presentations, workshops, and professional development opportunities for campus stakeholders.
- Participate in system-wide committees, workgroups, and project teams that support transfer, articulation, and student success objectives.
- Maintain knowledge of emerging trends, regulations, technologies, and practices impacting transfer students and higher education.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of SUNY's transfer and student success mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, including transfer advising, transfer credit evaluation, transfer articulation, student services, enrollment management, academic affairs, or a closely related area.
- Demonstrated knowledge of transfer policies, articulation practices, and student success initiatives.
- Experience working with student information systems, degree audit systems, or related higher education technologies.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse stakeholders and function effectively in a system-wide environment.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of FERPA and related state and federal regulations governing student records.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience within the SUNY System.
- Experience supporting transfer articulation, prior learning assessment, degree completion, academic advising, or enrollment management initiatives.
- Experience with Degree Works or similar degree audit platforms.
- Experience working with large-scale data systems and data governance processes.
- Experience supporting cross-functional technology projects and system implementations.
- Knowledge of relational databases and reporting tools.
- Experience designing and delivering training, workshops, or professional development programs.
Pay
Salary Grade: Senior Staff Assistant SL3. Salary is dependent on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, training, and certifications. The salary range for this position is $73,000 - $87,000. The posted salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position. Individual starting salaries are determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity. While the full range is provided for transparency, starting salaries generally fall near the entry to midpoint of the range. Salaries at or near the top of the range are rare and reserved for candidates who exceptionally exceed all posted requirements.
