Transfer Center/Patient Placement Part-time

About the Role

At Saint Alphonsus Health System, we are looking for a Bed Control Nurse to coordinate the placement of all patient admissions (elective and emergent) and transfers in accordance with the clinical standards and guidelines of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. In this role, you will ensure that patients are admitted to the most appropriate bed available using criteria for admission and determine if the patient is a candidate for observation or inpatient status. You will also contact physician specialty groups for physician-to-physician consults from outlying facilities and coordinate transport of patients to our facility with Life Flight and robotic consults.

Schedule

This is a part-time, rotating shift position. You will work three 12-hour shifts from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM, enjoying four days off each week. The department is a close-knit team of about 20 colleagues, offering excellent work-life balance.

Responsibilities

• Know, understand, and incorporate the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values into behaviors, practices, and decisions.
• Coordinate placement of all inpatients to the most appropriate bed based on bed availability across care units.
• Navigate the robotic consult protocol and determine the appropriate physician for outside consults.
• Assist in coordinating air or ground transport and facilitate inter-facility transfers.
• Contact physicians in a timely and professional manner.
• Communicate with managers, charge nurses, and clinical coordinators to ensure adequate staffing during high census periods.
• Utilize IUSM for patient placement and coordinate with environmental services and patient care units to expedite bed turnaround.
• Participate in daily bed briefings, surge, and intensity meetings as necessary.
• Monitor the overall capacity status of the medical center and coordinate interventions during peak census or limited staffing.
• Coordinate with transport, PACU, and inpatient units for timely movement of physical beds.
• Enter calls from outlying facilities into Forefront and utilize Central Logic for physician searches and paging.
• Communicate frequently with the emergency department to facilitate timely admissions.
• Prepare periodic reports regarding patient placement issues and concerns.
• Serve on committees within and beyond Patient Care Services.

Requirements

• A current RN license is required; multistate licenses must establish residency with the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days of hire.
• All colleagues must provide licensure or proof of application in process for an Oregon RN license within 90 days of hire.
• Acute care, critical care, or medical-surgical (MS) experience is required.
• A BSN is strongly preferred.
• A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse experience is required.
• At hire, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required. ACLS and/or PALS may be accepted in lieu of BLS.
• Other certifications may be required as identified in the SAHS Certification Crosswalk.
