About the role

The Transfer Admission Evaluator and Advisor (SSPII) plays a vital role in supporting prospective transfer students throughout the admission process. This position evaluates transfer applications and academic records to determine admission eligibility, provides advising and guidance on transfer pathways and admission requirements, and serves as a key resource for students, community colleges, and campus partners.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate transfer applications and academic records to determine admission eligibility, including analysis of coursework, general education completion, lower-division major preparation, and transferability of courses from various institutions.
  • Advise prospective and admitted transfer students on CSU and SDSU admission requirements, transfer pathways, academic planning, and available resources to support successful enrollment and degree completion.
  • Review and resolve application and transcript discrepancies, independently researching data issues, implementing corrections, and coordinating with technical and functional teams to maintain accurate student records.
  • Manage admission appeals and file completion processes, including evaluating appeal documentation, communicating requirements and outcomes, monitoring receipt of academic records, and ensuring timely processing of admissions files.
  • Provide clear and accurate communication regarding admission decisions, explaining evaluation outcomes, recommendations, policies, and available options while connecting students with appropriate campus support services when needed.
  • Support transfer admissions projects and systems operations, including work related to Cal State Apply, transfer planning tools, student information systems, application processing, and data integrity initiatives.
  • Collaborate with community colleges, campus partners, and external stakeholders to promote transfer student success, support outreach efforts, and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives within the admissions process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration, or similar) and 2 years of professional experience in student services or a related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.

  • Help students navigate their educational journey by interpreting admissions requirements, academic policies, transfer pathways, and degree requirements with confidence and clarity.
  • Build meaningful relationships with a diverse student population, providing personalized guidance and support to help students achieve their academic and career goals.
  • Analyze transcripts, academic records, and student information to make informed recommendations and ensure accurate evaluation of educational progress.
  • Use strong research, interviewing, and problem-solving skills to gather information, assess situations, and recommend effective solutions.
  • Communicate complex information clearly through one-on-one advising, group presentations, workshops, written reports, and outreach efforts.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, administrators, student organizations, and community partners to support student success and program initiatives.
  • Leverage technology, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace, to manage information, communicate effectively, and support daily operations.

Compensation Salary is based on your experience, education, and qualifications, within the department’s budget and equity guidelines. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,083.00 –$ 7,228.00 /month; hiring salary not expected to exceed $5,083.00/month.
