About the role
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) seeks a Transition Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (TVRC) Trainee - Sr TVRC to support the mission of helping individuals with disabilities achieve employment goals.
Responsibilities
- Provides quality Transition Services to students with disabilities, including those potentially eligible for VR services.
- Develops and maintains relations with community referral sources, businesses, employers, and schools.
- Collaborates with local education agencies and families to support students' transition to postsecondary education and employment.
- Affords opportunities for students to explore career options and gain employment experiences.
- Maintains student records and manages case loads.
- Ensures timely and cost-effective provision of services and monitors student progress towards employment goals.
- Develops and implements processes for job placement for students.
- Works with regional employment specialists and business relation specialists to build relationships with businesses.
- Applies best value purchasing practices and ensures efficient use of public funds.
- Acts as a team leader for assigned support staff.
- Participates in training activities for staff development.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One year of related work experience, or two years of related work experience with a bachelor’s degree in a field reasonably related to vocational rehabilitation.
- Experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor in accordance with agency career ladder requirements.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 10 pounds.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or CRC certificate.
- LPC credential.
- Master’s degree in any other field with one year of related work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in any field with a major in vocational rehabilitation or related fields.
- Bachelor’s degree in any field with a major in counseling, education, social work, psychology, or public health.
- Three years of related work experience.
Skills
Applicants should demonstrate strong critical thinking skills, sound decision-making abilities, and experience in case management, counseling, job placement, and working with individuals with disabilities.
