On-siteCustomer Service$67k–$72k/yrFull-time

Location: Park City, UT

About the role

Marine Layer is a premium apparel retailer whose aim is to provide an outstanding brand experience to our customers and employees. We do it all with a commitment to people and the planet demonstrated through our B-Corporation Certification achieved and maintained since 2022. Our first store on Chestnut Street in our hometown of San Francisco set us on the road to 55+ stores across the US led by dedicated teams who embody and uphold our shared values.

We’re looking for a passionate leader ready to take the next step in their retail career and grow into running their own best-in-class store. As Store Manager in Training, you will work alongside an experienced store leadership team to own the business within your four walls and develop your skills through a structured, hands-on program. You'll build the skills to execute sales strategy; identify, staff and schedule top notch talent; expertly train and execute on all operational and visual functions; build strong partnerships with your peers and cross-functional support partners; and represent the ML brand in your local market. This is a full-time position structured to support both you and the business by giving you the tools you’ll need to be eligible for promotion and successfully step into a Manager role when the opportunity arises.

Responsibilities

  • Customer + Brand Experience: Inspire the team to deliver a genuine customer experience that exceeds expectations while achieving sales goals, using applied soft skills and business acumen.
  • People Development: Serve as the Store Manager’s right hand in recruiting, training, and developing the team, offering consistent and timely feedback to encourage professional growth and maintain a positive working environment.
  • Leadership: Ensure the business doesn’t miss a beat in the Store Manager’s absence, keeping the team happy, engaged, and challenged, and prioritizing operations accordingly.
  • Visual Merchandising: Maintain a keen eye for merchandising and visual standards — from monthly floorsets to daily product replenishment — and know when to delegate and hold the team accountable to those standards.
  • Operations: Execute key tasks such as scheduling and payroll, and train and delegate day-to-day projects like fulfillment and zoning to achieve operational excellence.
  • Personal Development: Actively participate in all aspects of the SMIT program, consistently rotate through key functional areas of the store, show initiative, and achieve core milestones that set you up to successfully lead a store of your own.

Qualifications

  • Authentic Brand Advocate: Genuine connection to Marine Layer’s California-based laidback lifestyle; you’ve heard of us and already love us (or at least can relate to our vibe).
  • Retail Leadership Potential: Experience in a supervisory, keyholder, or assistant management role; strong drive to grow into a Store Manager; positive attitude. Size of previous company or store is not the deciding factor.
  • Flexibility to Grow: Willingness to relocate or travel between store locations as needed to complete training, along with flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Commitment to the Mission + Values: Spread positive vibes, set a solid example of not taking yourself too seriously, and uphold the culture of working hard while having fun.

Benefits

  • Competitive pay and bonus structure
  • Clothing allowance and generous discount
  • Paid time off
  • Health, Vision and Dental Insurance available
  • 401k with Employer Matching
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • Disability + Life Insurance
  • Parental Leave

Pay

Annual salary: $67,000 – $72,000

Schedule
