Training Specialist
About the role
The Training Specialist plays a crucial role in the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) by providing complex educational activities and services to state hospital employees. This position serves as a subject matter expert on the provision of services to clients and ensures that employees are effectively trained in the core and specialty competencies required for their roles.
Responsibilities
- Develops, plans, organizes, conducts, and evaluates educational and training programs and opportunities in new pre-service training, annual refresher training, and on-the-job training.
- Maintains accurate records of training and utilizes the training software program to maintain and provide employee training records and report training compliance.
- Tracks and ensures accuracy of hospital curriculum, and maintains survey readiness for the department.
- Ensures employees are effectively trained in the core and specialty competencies required for their position.
- Monitors and documents the actions and behaviors of class participants to ensure compliance with psychiatric hospital policies and FCTD guidelines.
- Trains new and existing employees on core mandatory classes and local trainings, including CPR, TIPS, annual refresher, core classes as mandated by state office, etc.
- Maintains necessary certifications to teach certain FCTD courses and other assigned classes.
- Organizes, enters, and reconciles employee training and training files, ensuring they are entered within hospital timeframes and can be located easily upon request.
- Utilizes the PeopleSoft TIMS computer training tracking system to ensure correct and complete documentation of staff training.
Requirements
Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to enter and track large amounts of data and utilize databases. Ability to work in a team environment and interact with individuals of different backgrounds and types of education. Teaching in adult education preferred. Two years of experience working in mental health field is preferred.
Qualifications
Initial Screening Criteria: Bachelor's Degree required. Two years in teaching professionally may substitute for degree. Position must obtain certification in CPR, TIPS, and PiCert within six (6) months of hire date.

$4,400.00 - $6,335.66 per month
Schedule
Day shift, up to 5% travel, up to 10% telework
