TRAINING OFFICER
Number of positions: 1 (additional vacancies possible pending budget approval). Starting salary: $75,336. This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City’s collective bargaining agreement with AFSCME – Bargaining Units 1, 3, 4 & 5. Only employees in City job titles in this bargaining unit are eligible to bid.
About the role
The Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) is seeking a Training Officer to develop and present disability-related training materials for internal MOPD staff, other City of Chicago departments, and external stakeholders. Under general supervision, this role provides employee training and development services in a department with diverse training needs.
Responsibilities
- Develops and presents disability-related training materials on topics such as Disability and Access, Planning Accessible Events, and Digital Accessibility.
- Prepares program materials including training outlines, instructional modules, resource guides, and visual aids for training delivery.
- Leads and coordinates the work of the Training Unit, including assigning projects.
- Conducts research on accessible and affordable housing to incorporate into training materials.
- Identifies and coordinates professional development opportunities for MOPD staff.
- Develops and implements training evaluation tools and incorporates feedback for continuous improvement.
- Tracks and reports on the number of training participants.
- Answers technical assistance questions pertaining to program and physical access as it applies to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
- Provides support in managing MOPD’s Advisory Committees.
- Performs additional duties as required for the position.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree plus three (3) years of training or teaching experience.
- Alternate qualifications:
- Seven (7) years of training or teaching experience, or
- Graduation from an accredited college with an Associate’s degree plus five (5) years of training or teaching experience, or
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree or higher plus two (2) years of training or teaching experience.

Skills
- Previous lived experience as someone with a disability.
- Experience leading and coordinating projects and initiatives related to training responsibilities.
- Experience developing and implementing a learning management system.
- Experience training and coaching others in using computer applications and equipment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Selection process
This position requires applicants to complete an interview, which may include a written exercise and/or a skills assessment test. The candidate(s) best suited to fulfill the responsibilities, based on the oral and written parts of the interview, will be selected.
Pay
Starting salary: $75,336.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
