We are currently seeking a Train Operator/Coordinator to join our MST Plant team at our North Antelope Rochelle Mine (NARM), the world’s largest surface coal mine located in Wright, Wyoming. The mine produces high-quality thermal coal that is loaded onto haul trucks and shipped by rail, with approximately 465 million tons of coal reserves. Wright is a safe, tight-knit community in Campbell County with outstanding schools and various recreational opportunities.

About the role

This role focuses on safe and efficient train movement and loading but will also include training and assisting in plant operations as needed. You will work within a safety-first culture, striving for zero recordable MSHA injuries or incidents.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely and promote safe behavior in others.
  • Coordinate train loading and movement, including communication with dispatch, plant personnel, and railroads.
  • Safely inspect locomotives and train cars, including identifying defects to prevent doors from opening during loading.
  • Operate track switches, mount/dismount cars and locomotives, and use a brake stick.
  • Understand red flag and blue flag isolation procedures.
  • Verify and complete all necessary paperwork, including documenting BO cars and reporting locomotive defects.
  • Provide paperwork to the loadout operator for loading.
  • Assist with general housekeeping, including keeping light vehicles and locomotives clean and organized.
  • Communicate train schedules and needs with the plant General Foreman and other train operators in the PRB.
  • Inspect trains and operate locomotives safely with proper training.
  • Train to operate plant areas, loadout, control room, and handle samples with proper procedures.
  • Complete basic repairs in plant operations and troubleshoot lube systems.
  • Visibly support and champion Peabody’s Mission and Values.
  • Act in accordance with the Safety as a Way of Life Management System.
  • Inspect the workplace to identify and correct hazards and equipment failures.
  • Adjust processes through computerized control to meet production parameters.
  • Respond to malfunctions or anomalies in the production process.
  • Train other personnel as required and maintain accurate records of sampling/quality control.
  • Operate train loadout and dozers for stockpile management.
  • Isolate and permit plant for maintenance purposes.
  • Ensure all activities comply with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the company.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or GED equivalent required.
  • Ability to stand for up to 4 hours per shift and be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
  • Ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb stairs/steps, and climb on/off equipment and ladders.
  • Ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other PPE as mandated by Company and MSHA.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle) and have rapid reflex movements of the arms/legs with good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to lift/raise 10–50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the work shift.
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions, including changing weather, dust, mud, varying noise levels, and confined spaces.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, rotating schedules, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to work at all Peabody mines in the basin as needed.

Schedule

This position follows a 28-day shift rotation, which may include weekends, holidays, or other shifts as deemed necessary.
