Train Engineer- Part Time

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Move the train periodically to ensure it’s operating properly.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

• Perform inspections on the locomotive before and after runs
• Safely operate the train between stations
• Maintain on-board meters and gauges including air pressure, battery charge, amperage, and train speed
• Identify and troubleshoot minor breakdowns
• Perform basic train maintenance when required
• Identify opportunities for improvement, develop improvement plans, and lead or participate in their implementation
• Present improvement plans to appropriate personnel
• Perform additional relevant duties as assigned

SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITIES

None. This is an individual contributor role with required competencies: Functional/Technical Skills, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly, and Interpersonal Savvy.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

• A high school diploma or GED
• Must have an Occupational license - Certified Train Operator

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Experience preferred but not required
• Excellent diagnostic skills
• Basic mechanical skills
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively both up and down the chain of command and with external customers when needed in a timely and professional manner
• A strong customer-centric attitude, high energy level, and a strong sense of urgency

Safety Requirements

• Follow departmental and company safety policies and programs
• Wear required protective equipment in all areas where mandatory

Physical Requirements

• Able to lift 40 lbs or more, utilizing proper lifting techniques
• Able to work in noisy and dusty environments
• Able to stand for long periods of time
• Able to concentrate for long periods
