Job Summary
About the role
As a trailer technician II, you are responsible for performing intermediate maintenance, service and repair to J.B. Hunt trailers and other equipment. Under routine supervision, you must be able to troubleshoot issues and complete all fleet maintenance to ensure that our equipment meets J.B. Hunt standards at all times.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate proficient knowledge of preventative maintenance and standard repairs related to trailer equipment, including fuel systems, batteries, engines, drive trains, onboard computers, transmissions, air brake systems and FHWA inspections
- Troubleshoot trailer issues and accurately perform intermediate-level repairs to company and manufacturer’s specifications, complete work orders and demonstrate understanding of company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines
- Aid with the onboarding and mentorship of trailer technician trainees
- Participate in Original Equipment Manufacture training for OE repairs
- Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures
- Maintain professional communication with J.B. Hunt personnel and customers
Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age with 2 years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent
- Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences:
- At least 1 year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes
- Able to supply your own basic tools, or purchase through our toolbox purchase program
- Willingness to work outdoors in the elements
- Able to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends if needed
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 2+ years of experience in semi-trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or military equivalent
- Basic welding skills (MIG and stick)
- Able to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas through various mediums
- Able to manage multiple priorities
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Able to use time and resources efficiently and effectively
- Able to fulfill physical requirements (lift/move appliance up to 50 pounds)
- Able to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE)
