About the role
The City of Aurora is seeking dedicated and collaborative individuals to join its team of talented and valued employees. The position involves maintaining and repairing traffic control systems, ensuring smooth and efficient traffic flow.
Responsibilities
- Operates or uses a variety of tools and equipment related to traffic control maintenance function.
- Conducts preventative maintenance inspections and makes minor repairs of traffic control equipment.
- Covers routine maintenance activities and assists in skilled maintenance and construction tasks including the installation and testing of traffic signal control equipment.
- Operates diagnostic equipment and maintains various records such as equipment, time, supplies, and parts inventory.
- Aids in training other employees in routine maintenance tasks.
- Assists other maintenance groups (such as signs and markings and streets) as needed.
Requirements
- Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Colorado Class B Commercial Driver's License.
- IMSA Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Certification preferred.
- IMSA Traffic Signal Level I Certification.
- IMSA Traffic Signal Level II Certification.
- RTD On-Track Safety Training Certification within six (6) months of employment in the position.
- ATSSA safety certificate within six (6) months of employment in the position.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Traffic Signals Technician: Two (2) years of traffic signal maintenance experience minimum.
- Traffic Signals Tech II: Four (4) years of traffic signal maintenance experience minimum.
- Knowledge of practices and techniques of traffic maintenance functions.
- Applicable safety practices and procedures.
- Use of tools, specialized equipment, methods, and safety practices common to assigned maintenance function.
- Proficiency in operating aerial lift equipment.
- Ability to inspect and make minor repairs to traffic signal equipment.
- Manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees.
- Understand oral and written instructions.
- Operate or receive training on various types of maintenance and construction equipment.
- Work overtime and call back duty.
- Train and instruct other employees.
- Keep and maintain accurate records.
- Organize and schedule tools, materials, and equipment to accomplish tasks.
- Supportive team player with a positive attitude and ability to adapt to change.
- Strong commitment to safety.
Skills

Pay
The Hiring Range For This Position Is:
- Traffic Signals Tech: $25.76 - $32.20/Hourly
- Traffic Signals Tech II: $27.57 - $34.46/Hourly
- Traffic Signals Tech III: $29.50 - $36.87/Hourly
Schedule
Work primarily outdoors in all weather conditions. Exposure to noise, dust, fumes, street traffic and materials used in traffic maintenance such as paint and chemicals. Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays in emergency situations including snow removal.
Equipment Used
Operate heavy equipment common to traffic signal maintenance. This position may require the incumbent to occasionally use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
