Traffic Signal Technician II & III

This position is responsible for performing technical work in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to urgent traffic signal malfunction calls, direct traffic and/or repair signals.
  • Set and maintain all local timing patterns and closed loop operations, conduct periodic maintenance on all traffic signals, and test timing switches quarterly.
  • Maintain purchasing of all traffic signal and sign equipment by preparing purchase orders and submitting for approval.
  • Assist local agencies in obtaining required traffic signal permits and collecting fees.
  • Oversee and install traffic signals at designated locations, including:
    • Building forms and mixing/setting concrete pads
    • Installing controller cabinet with loop detector, conflict monitor, and/or timer
    • Setting and pulling span wire and electrical conductor cable
    • Hanging traffic signals and making wire connections at signal, cabinet, and power lines
    • Interconnecting to existing signals
    • Cutting asphalt and installing magnetic detection loops
  • Monitor and participate in upgrading existing traffic signals, flashing beacons, and/or replacement of new equipment.
  • Construct and repair traffic signals, timers, and microprocessors; troubleshoot circuits using volt meter or oscilloscope.
  • Assist electrician with wiring circuits, including installing holiday decorations, repairing airport hangar wiring, and installing/repairing ballfield and park lighting.
  • Install telephone lines and communication lines for traffic signals.
  • Investigate traffic complaints related to public concerns and/or accidents, provide facts to attorneys, and may appear in court as an expert witness.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions in all traffic signal devices.
  • Assist in on-site work duties.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Ability to distinguish the range of the color spectrum.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to work at heights over 15 feet.
  • 2+ years of Traffic Signal Technician experience preferred.
  • IMSA Level II or III Certification is preferred but not required.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
