About the role
This classification installs, repairs, and maintains traffic signs and signals throughout the City.
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in the installation, maintenance and repair of signs and road markings in accordance with department procedures and traffic control device manual.
- Fabricates and erects replacement street signs on City maintained streets.
- Installs flexible delineators, bollards, and wheel stops.
- Affords assistance with various other tasks in the Public Works Department as needed (snow removal, driving trucks, etc).
- Works both indoor and outdoor, including on streets and right of ways.
- Affords assistance in the implementation of traffic control, detours, road closures, emergency situations, and special events; affords assistance in the set up and installation of message boards for events.
- Affords assistance in inventory control.
- Operates bucket truck, trencher, hydraulic post driver, hydraulic post puller, high BTU torches and other equipment to complete daily tasks.
- Cleans and maintains the shop area.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- One (1) year of experience in traffic maintenance or related field is required.
- Requires a valid state driver’s license, preferred CDL with an acceptable driving history.
Qualifications
- Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-25 pounds).
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require that ability to communicate orally.
- Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
Skills
- Knowledge of traffic control devices and sign installation techniques.
- Ability to operate various heavy equipment and tools.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Schedule
Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday
