Traffic Sign Maintenance Worker

About the role

This classification installs, repairs, and maintains traffic signs and signals throughout the City.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of signs and road markings in accordance with department procedures and traffic control device manual.
• Fabricating and erects replacement street signs on City maintained streets.
• Installing flexible delineators, bollards, and wheel stops.
• Assists with various other tasks in the Public Works Department as needed (snow removal, driving trucks, etc.).
• Work is both indoor and outdoor, including on streets and right of ways.
• Assists in the implementation of traffic control, detours, road closures, emergency situations, and special events; assists in the set up and installation of message boards for events.
• Assists in inventory control.
• Operates bucket truck, trencher, hydraulic post driver, hydraulic post puller, high BTU torches and other equipment to complete daily tasks.
• Cleans and maintains the shop area.
• Performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• One (1) year of experience in traffic maintenance or related field is required.
• Requires a valid state driver’s license; a CDL with an acceptable driving history is preferred.
• Physical ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects weighing 5‑25 pounds.
• Ability to work extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
• Ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals.
• Ability to communicate orally.
• Ability to perform essential functions without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
