Traffic Project Engineer
About the role
This position involves producing and modifying design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. It includes consulting with the project manager to perform research, development, calculations, design and delivery. The role applies engineering techniques, procedures and design criteria for projects ranging in size and complexity.
Responsibilities
- Performs research, development, calculations, design and delivery for assigned projects.
- Addresses design-related issues or concerns through creative problem solving, interactions with clients, and completing tasks to meet project schedules.
- Develops conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs and software.
- Mentors, trains and reviews work of junior engineer staff and provides constructive feedback.
- Contributes to the successful project delivery for a diverse range of projects for HNTB’s clients.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
Qualifications
- Develops traffic analysis models in software including: VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, FREEVAL, and Sidra.
- Designs and prepares traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, and maintenance and protection of traffic plans.
- Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative safety analyses.
- Prepares technical reports and presents findings.
- Develops quantities and cost estimates.
- Leads data collection and field investigations.
- Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design related issues or concerns, working closely with the project manager through creative problem solving, interactions with clients and by completing tasks to meet the project schedule.

The approximate pay range for Massachusetts is $115,189.80 - $180,168.68. The approximate pay range for Rocky Hill, CT is $105,590.66 - $165,154.61. The approximate nation wide pay range for this position is $95,991.51 - $187,675.71.
