Traffic Project Engineer
About the role
This position involves producing and modifying design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans and specifications for assigned projects. It requires consulting with the project manager for research, development, calculations, design, and delivery. The role involves developing conceptual and detailed designs and calculations to support project completion using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software. Mentoring and reviewing work of junior engineers is also part of the responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the planning and distribution of discipline-specific work, and adherence to the schedule and budget on projects.
- Aids in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
- Assists in the development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and/or assignments within discipline.
- Ensures completeness and accuracy of project team’s work within the technical discipline.
- Guides and mentors team to overall project objectives.
- Coordinates technical aspects of project with client counterpart and teaming partners at staff level for work within the discipline.
- Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative safety analyses.
- Prepares technical reports and presents findings.
- Develops quantities and cost estimates.
- Conducts data collection and field investigations.
- Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design-related issues or concerns.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
Qualifications
- Develops traffic analysis models in software including: VISSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, FREEVAL, and Sidra.
- Designs and prepares traffic signal, signing, pavement marking, and maintenance and protection of traffic plans.
- Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Conducts quantitative and qualitative safety analyses.
- Prepares technical reports and presents findings.
- Develops quantities and cost estimate.
- Conducts data collection and field investigations.
- Leverages technical knowledge and experience to address design-related issues or concerns.

The approximate pay range for Massachusetts is $115,189.80 - $180,168.68. The approximate pay range for Rocky Hill, CT is $105,590.66 - $165,154.61. The approximate nation wide pay range for this position is $95,991.51 - $187,675.71.
