About the role
The Traffic Operations Technician position involves the maintenance and repair of all traffic control devices within the city, including regulatory, warning, guide signs, and street name signs. This role also includes the installation and repair of traffic signals, wiring, and underground conduits. Additionally, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining school zone flashers, roadway lighting, and providing administrative support.
Responsibilities
- Install, repair, maintain, and fabricate traffic control signs and devices
- Perform preventative maintenance on signal hardware
- Replace and repair wiring and underground conduits
- Fabricate logos, lettering, and numbers for City vehicles and facilities
- Maintain and inspect school zone flashers
- Install and maintain roadway lighting systems
- Deploy traffic counters and changeable message boards as necessary
- Provide administrative support by processing work orders, maintaining work logs, and on-call status
- Assist in providing signage service by fabricating street and regulatory signs
- Perform vehicle inspections and report potential hazards
- Assist in providing administrative support by maintaining preventative maintenance on the aerial lift truck and other City vehicles
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Graduation from High School or GED
- Six months maintenance and/or construction experience involving the basic maintenance and repair of electrical or electro-mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of processes and procedures of traffic signal installation, repair, and maintenance; knowledge of the MUTCD as related to construction, school zones, and traffic signals
- Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with others
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers
- Knowledge and experience in working on highway lighting systems
- Ability and willingness to perform manual labor
- Skilled in the use of highly technical computer applications such as ATMS and the use of small/light equipment and power tools
- Ability to establish and maintain a safe working environment
Qualifications
- Valid driver's license required
- Must have and maintain a good driving record in accordance with the driving standards as established by the City of Rowlett
- Must report all traffic citations to his/her departmental Director or his/her designee within two working days of receipt
- Ability to obtain Level I IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Certification with twelve (12) months from date of hire
- Ability to be on-call after hours and /or weekends
- TEEX Work Zone Traffic Control Certification within 1 month

Pay
$49,813.14 minimum - $56,039.95 1st quartile (Depending on qualifications)
Schedule
4-day work week with standard business hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., depending on departmental schedules.
