Traffic Management Specialist

About the role

Provides assistance and information to incoming patients, visitors, and staff to facilitate their entrance to and exit from the hospital. Offers valet parking services, assists with traffic control in hospital parking areas, and maintains accurate documentation regarding valet-parked vehicles. This position has no responsibility for providing patient care.

Responsibilities

• Directs and assists patients and visitors as they enter and exit the hospital parking areas, lobby, and vehicles.
• Assists patients with mobility challenges using wheelchair assistance or golf cart escorts.
• Updates wayfinding signage and provides directions to and from clinic visits.
• Assists patients with access to public transportation, taxis, and ridesharing services.
• Parks and retrieves patient vehicles upon arrival and departure in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
• Performs simple repairs to parking control equipment and assists with minor vehicle repairs (e.g., flat tires, dead batteries).
• Coordinates with Parking Services and Security to patrol and enforce parking areas.
• Assists in emergency situations by directing emergency vehicles and maintaining traffic control.
• Maintains metrics to track traffic congestion and other data points for space efficiency planning.
• Directs self-parking visitors into open stalls during high-volume times.
• Facilitates traffic on University-owned roads, coordinating with outside agencies as needed.
• Investigates and reports accidents in valet areas and educates patrons on next steps.
• Ensures a clean and safe environment at hospital entrances and patient terraces, including addressing lighting, removing debris, and clearing ice/snow.
• Uses shuttles or golf carts to transfer patients between health sciences buildings.
• Participates in process improvement for traffic control and parking models to enhance hospital access.
• Acts as a liaison with Security, Campus Police, Emergency Management, and Facilities to secure access and ensure safe egress during emergencies.

Requirements

• Current, valid state-issued driver’s license at time of hire with no moving violations in the preceding two years (some exceptions may apply).
• Ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient information is protected.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

• Intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting, exerting up to 100 pounds (lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or moving patients/objects).
• Standing for sustained periods and walking long distances between areas.
• Exposure to outside environmental conditions.
• Physical requirements include: carrying, climbing, color determination, crawling, far/near vision, lifting, listening, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, reaching, sitting, speaking, standing, stooping/crouching, tasting/smelling, and walking.
