Traffic Flagger

Job Summary

As the Flagger, you will ultimately be responsible for directing traffic safely, protecting workers and the public, and maintaining compliance with work zone safety regulations. You will support construction crews by managing traffic flow and assisting with laborer duties as needed. As the Flagger, your customers are internal construction teams, utility crews, and the public, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company’s success through safety, teamwork, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)

• Direct traffic using STOP/SLOW paddles, flags, and hand signals in accordance with MUTCD and ATSSA standards
• Communicate with site supervisors and fellow flaggers to maintain safe and efficient traffic flow
• Set up and remove cones, signs, and barricades to support work zone operations
• Monitor traffic and work zone conditions and report hazards or unsafe behavior
• Follow approved traffic control plans and flagging instructions as directed
• Maintain awareness of surroundings to protect crews, motorists, and pedestrians
• Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs

Required Qualifications

• Education, Licensing, and Certifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; valid driver’s license preferred
• Experience: Previous experience in traffic control, construction, or utility work preferred; familiarity with work zone safety procedures and traffic management
• Skills and Abilities: Ability to stand for extended periods and work outdoors in varying weather conditions; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; strong verbal communication and situational awareness; ability to follow safety procedures and wear required PPE; willingness to travel to various job sites as needed; must be at least 18 years of age
• Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with MUTCD flagging standards; ATSSA certification preferred; bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and signal for extended periods
• Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions
• Exposure to moving traffic, dust, noise, and heavy equipment
• Must be able to wear required PPE including hard hat, reflective vest, gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and safety footwear
