Traffic Engineering Section Lead | Senior Traffic Engineer
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Traffic Engineer to lead and grow our traffic engineering practice in South Carolina. The ideal candidate will be a technical expert in traffic engineering, with strong business development skills, including proposal writing and client relationship management. This role involves overseeing traffic-related projects, mentoring staff, and expanding market opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Business Development: Develop and execute a strategic growth plan for the traffic engineering practice in South Carolina. Establish and expand market presence through business development, marketing, and client engagement. Lead proposal efforts and pursue new project opportunities. Manage financial budgets, resource allocation, and staffing needs for the region.
Technical & Project Management: Serve as the technical lead for traffic engineering projects, including: Traffic signal design, Signing & pavement marking plans, Crash analysis & safety studies, Traffic impact studies & simulation modeling, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans, Roadway lighting (as needed). Oversee project execution, ensuring quality, schedule, and budget adherence. Coordinate with clients, contractors, government agencies (SCDOT), and stakeholders.
Staff Management & Mentorship: Recruit, hire, and mentor traffic engineering staff. Conduct performance reviews and provide career development guidance. Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from an ABET-accredited program.
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina.
10+ years of experience in traffic engineering (design, planning, analysis).
Strong familiarity with SCDOT policies, standards, and practices.
Experience with traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, VISSIM, HCS).
Proven track record working with SCDOT and other transportation agencies.
Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).
Experience in business development and client relations.
Working Conditions
Hybrid work model (office + remote). Primarily sedentary, with occasional standing/walking. Standard office environment with no significant hazards.
