Responsibilities

  • Mentor and develop engineering staff to support continued growth of the group.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients across multiple disciplines.
  • Develop project deliverables including reports, plans, specifications, estimates, and utility coordination documentation.
  • May include working as an extension of agency staff in agency offices as part of on-call contracts.
  • Development of conceptual, preliminary, and final transportation designs, including:
    • Traffic signal design
    • Signed and pavement markings design
    • Construction staging and work zone traffic control
    • Vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle detour signing
    • Transit station amenities design
    • Fiber and network design
    • Intersection control evaluations
    • Signal and roundabout feasibility studies
    • Transportation Management Plans
    • Intelligent Transportation Systems Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering, traffic/transportation engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of related experience in traffic engineering, traffic studies, ITS, and/or transportation technology.
  • Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record to travel to work sites and meetings as needed.
  • Ability to lead projects, manage technical tasks, and mentor staff.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with CADD platforms such as Open Road Designer or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with traffic engineering software, ITS/CAV systems, and/or transportation technologies.
  • Experience developing plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E) preferred.

Pay

Salary Range: $107,100 - $126,000

Compensation is determined by various factors, including education, experience, skills, job location, internal equity, market analysis, and specific qualifications relevant to the role.
