The Street Transportation Department's Traffic Services Division plays a vital role in keeping Phoenix moving safely and efficiently for everyone, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians alike. Our Traffic Engineer III positions provide technical leadership, design guidance, and quality assurance for a wide range of City and partner agency projects. These roles include supervising staff, developing and reviewing engineering plans, and using data driven analysis to guide decisions. Traffic Engineers III also represent the City in community and stakeholder meetings, which may occasionally include evenings and weekends. We are currently recruiting for two exciting Traffic Engineer III positions within the Traffic Services Division. These roles require a high level of technical expertise, critical thinking, and strong interpersonal skills. Neighborhood Traffic Engineer This position leads programs and initiatives that directly impact neighborhood safety and mobility. It guides traffic calming, school safety, and a variety of transportation projects while managing operational and capital budgets. Responsibilities Include And Are Not Limited To: Designing bicycle facilities.Managing pavement marking and signing.Selecting traffic control devices.Leading traffic safety, capacity, parking, and field investigations.Supervising a team of Engineering and Technical professionals.Engaging with the public frequently about neighborhood traffic safety concerns, presenting to neighborhood groups, and at times interacting with elected officials and the media. Pedestrian Safety Engineer This role leads the City's pedestrian safety efforts, focusing on analyzing crashes to identify trends, causes, and opportunities for improvement. The position develops studies, programs, and policies aimed at improving pedestrian and overall traffic safety. Responsibilities Include And Are Not Limited To: Managing projects and budgets.Conducting technical reviews.Implementing safety education initiatives.Evaluating and shaping City pedestrian policies.Supporting the Safe Routes to School program.Building strong internal and external partnerships.Supervising a team of Engineering and Technical professionals.Representing the City of Phoenix on national, regional, and local committees, and engaging with community members, elected officials, and the media. IDEAL CANDIDATE Knowledge Of: Multi-modal transportation planning, policy, and engineering.MUTCD, NACTO, and other industry standard traffic engineering practices.Principles and practices of employee supervision.Basic principles and practices of budget development, administration, and accountability. Ability To: Give technical presentations to agencies, the City Council, boards, commissions, and the public.Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, and other written materials.Communicate effectively in oral, written, and electronic communications.Maintain a professional demeanor and soft skills to work cooperatively with internal and external customers. SALARY Pay Range and Hiring Range: $104,728 to $140,337.60 annually. For more details, visit: Unit 007 Benefits Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in the field of Traffic Engineering.One year at a Senior Traffic Engineer level.Bachelor's degree in Engineering, including courses in Traffic Engineering or Transportation Engineering.Other combinations of experience and education which meet the minimum requirements may be substitutedAll finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Certification as a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE).Must be registered as a Professional Engineer in the State of Arizona obtained by the end of the probationary period (one year).Master's degree in Engineering. Experience With/in: Developing and managing budgets.Evaluating technical information.Coordinating with the public, outside agencies and internal customers.Preparing reports and making presentations.Supervising multi-disciplinary teams.Public speaking.
