About the Role

As a Traffic Engineer II at Bowman, you will execute complex technical transportation engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria for transportation and infrastructure projects. You will assist in developing sustainable transportation solutions to make communities more livable by reducing traffic congestion, promoting multiple modes of transportation, supporting land development, and improving safety for all users.

You will work on a variety of public and private projects, both locally and in other states, gaining broad exposure and meaningful experience in roadway and highway design. You will be empowered to do exceptional work that advances the best interest of our clients and the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

• Receive general instruction on key objectives and direction for complex assignments, especially those with conflicting criteria.
• Complete work using advanced engineering techniques and design principles, reviewed by senior staff for sound professional judgment.
• Review work produced by junior staff for quality assurance.
• Serve as a lead in the technical direction of less experienced engineers, providing mentorship and delegating assignments.
• Work closely with senior members to learn and assist with transportation engineering and planning.
• Assist with marketing the firm’s capabilities to establish new clients and enhance relationships.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and internal services/groups/offices as necessary.
• Prepare maps and graphics for public and client meetings, perform data analysis, conduct field reviews, and collect data.
• Conduct research on trends and best practices, contribute to stakeholder and public engagement efforts, and develop solutions to complex problems.
• Prepare engineering plans, reports, and assist in grant applications related to funding programs.
• Participate in construction-related assignments and draft transmittals, memos, meeting minutes, letters, proposals, and other documentation.
• Prepare reports, plans, specifications, construction schedules, cost estimates, permits, and/or designs for projects.
• Coordinate and conduct field visits, ensuring appropriate data collection and observations.
• Direct tasks on projects and monitor progress for technical accuracy and adherence to schedule and budget.
• Provide internal and external technical presentations and quality control for assigned projects.
• Assist with client and outside agency communication and attend project/public meetings.
• Develop and maintain accurate and organized project files.
• Follow established firm goals, SOPs, and QA/QC procedures, and assist in QA/QC reviews of other staff’s work.
• Mentor junior staff and prepare or lead various analyses and concept design aspects of engineering projects, including traffic studies, corridor/regional studies, and safety studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required.
• Completed coursework in transportation engineering and/or highway design preferred.
• Three or more (3+) years of professional engineering experience with an emphasis on transportation engineering or related field.
• Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (EIT) preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) Registration or ability to receive within six (6) months preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Valid state driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle check, or reliable transportation to/from the office and/or project site.
