Position Overview
Ocean State Signal is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Traffic Engineer to join our growing team. This role combines strong engineering expertise with client engagement, technical product support, and project collaboration.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical engineering support on the proper application of traffic control devices and ITS products
- Collaborate with public agencies, consulting engineers, and contractors to integrate appropriate traffic and ITS products into project designs
- Review construction plans and project specifications to apply product solutions
- Evaluate product compliance with project requirements, agency standards, and industry regulations
- Maintain working knowledge of evolving transportation technologies, standards, and best practices
- Deliver product presentations and technical trainings
- Support internal sales and operations teams with technical expertise and project guidance
- Stay current with industry standards including MUTCD, ITE, and applicable State DOT requirements
- Attend industry conferences, manufacturer training, and professional development events
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (Transportation emphasis preferred)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering
- Strong knowledge of traffic signal timing, ITS devices, and roadway communication systems
- Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
- Self-motivated and client-focused professional mindset
Preferred Experience
- Experience working with State DOTs, municipalities, or transportation consulting firms
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience supporting manufacturer products or providing technical sales support is a plus

Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform repetitive hand tasks. Occasionally lift up to 25 lbs. Visual abilities required: close, distance, and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
