Traffic Ctrl Technician

Responsibilities

• Maintain a consistent and unrelenting focus on safety throughout all job functions.
• Distribute traffic control signs and markers along the site in a designated pattern.
• Manage day-to-day work zone set up, maintenance, and tear down, meeting or exceeding customer, state, and company expectations.
• Lift, carry, and place up to 50 lbs. of traffic cones to ensure the safety of the work zone.
• Lift, carry, place, and assemble traffic control signs in the proper order to manage work zone traffic.
• Keep equipment in trucks well-organized and in working order.
• Develop superior knowledge of work zone setup, design, professional flagging responsibilities, and share this knowledge with teammates.
• Direct movement of traffic through the site, using signs, hand, and flag signals.
• Warn laborers and drivers when approaching a vehicle that fails to heed signals to prevent accidents and injuries to workers.
• Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
• Record the license numbers of traffic control violators for the police.
• Give a hand marker to the last driver in line-up of one-way traffic for the flagger at the opposite end of the site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.
• Write and review maintenance and incident reports for on-site issues or concerns.

Requirements

• 1 year of experience in traffic control or related field.
• Knowledge and skillful implementation of federal and state regulations for work zone safety and traffic control.
• Knowledge of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) guidelines and the ability to apply them to control traffic using proper devices and techniques.
• Knowledge of safety rules for construction sites and the ability to abide by them.
• 500 hours of experience in traffic control flagging.
• Basic understanding of construction job sites.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a DOT Med card for driving purposes (applicants are subject to an MVR review and must meet company standards for a safe driving record).

Pay

$20–$28 per hour, depending on experience.
