About the role

The Valet Ramp Travel Controller is responsible for maintaining the safe, efficient, and organized movement of vehicles, pedestrians, valet attendants, and guests throughout designated valet ramps and hospital entrance areas at Houston Methodist Hospital. This position serves as a central point of coordination on the valet ramp and plays a critical role in preventing congestion, maintaining safe travel lanes, supporting efficient vehicle retrieval and staging, and providing a positive arrival and departure experience for patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and other guests.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and coordinate vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout valet ramps, entrances, exits, loading zones, and staging areas to maintain safe, efficient traffic flow.
  • Guide vehicles to appropriate drop-off, pick-up, waiting, loading, and departure areas while minimizing congestion and maintaining clear fire lanes, pedestrian crossings, and emergency access routes.
  • Monitor ramp conditions and adjust vehicle staging or traffic patterns during peak periods, emergencies, construction, weather events, or other operational changes.
  • Communicate by radio and in person with valet attendants, supervisors, dispatchers, security, and hospital personnel to coordinate vehicle arrivals, retrievals, staging, and departures.
  • Maintain awareness of pedestrians, patients, wheelchairs, mobility devices, buses, shuttles, delivery vehicles, and emergency vehicles while directing traffic.
  • Provide courteous, professional assistance and clear directions to patients, visitors, physicians, employees, and guests.
  • Identify and respond to unsafe conditions, blocked travel lanes, unauthorized parking, traffic backups, or other hazards and promptly notify leadership as needed.
  • Report accidents, vehicle damage, guest concerns, equipment issues, or unusual activity according to established procedures.
  • Ensure cones, signs, barricades, and other traffic-control equipment are properly positioned and valet areas remain organized and presentable.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in valet operations, parking, transportation, traffic control, hospitality, healthcare, customer service, security, or a related environment preferred.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with guests, employees, leadership, and hospital personnel.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, high-traffic environment.
  • Strong situational awareness and attention to safety.
  • Ability to follow verbal, written, and radio instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Ability to maintain professional behavior when interacting with patients and guests experiencing stressful situations.

Skills

This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective equipment (PPE).
