Overview
AWP Safety is looking for motivated individuals to become a Traffic Control Technician. This position supports and upholds AWP’s mission to protect customers' people, businesses, and time.
Responsibilities
- Set up, maintain, and remove Advance Warning Signs, Channelizing Devices, and other traffic control devices according to Federal, State, and/or Local Temporary Traffic Control Guidelines and Temporary Traffic Control Plans for simple and intermediate complexity work zones.
- Maintain a Flagger Station by standing and controlling road users through the use of hand signals with a STOP/SLOW Paddle.
- Drive a company vehicle to transport equipment, trailers, and team members to and from work sites safely and in a timely manner. May also pull lightweight trailered equipment.
- Effective radio communication with team members on work site.
- Follow all company safety procedures and practices.
- Notify Supervisor of any potential safety issues or incidents.
- Achieve organizational required training within timeframe established by Project Manager or Facility Manager.
- Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and mentoring to Protectors.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Traffic Control Technician (TCT) Certification or 2000+ verifiable hours required.
- High School Diploma or GED completion required.
- Prior experience preferred in temporary traffic control services, utility industry, or construction industry preferred.
- Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office products and customer relationship management systems.
- Must be able to follow safe workplace practices.
- Valid Driver’s License void of suspension or revocation.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Hours of operation may vary due to staffing needs.
- Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Frequent exposure to a variety of extreme conditions at job sites including high noise level in the work environment.
- The position may work in outside conditions that include inclement weather, not limited to heat, cold, humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
- Position lifts or carries objects up to 50 pounds.
- Stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions; employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects.
- Position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
