Traffic Control Oversight & Supervision
The TCS are responsible for overseeing the safe and effective setup, maintenance, and removal of temporary traffic control (TTC) zones for construction, utility, and special event projects. This role ensures all traffic control operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations—including MUTCD and DOT standards.
Conduct pre-job site inspections and post-job evaluations for safety and quality assurance. Direct and support field crews, including flaggers and traffic control technicians.
Planning & Communication
Interpret traffic control plans and make real-time decisions to adjust layouts for field conditions. Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, inspectors, and enforcement personnel on-site. Coordinate with dispatch, operations, and logistics teams to ensure timely job execution.
Provide daily updates to supervisors regarding crew performance, safety concerns, and project status.
Safety & Compliance
Conduct tailgate safety meetings and enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Identify and mitigate hazards in active work zones. Complete required paperwork, including daily field reports, incident reports, and equipment checklists.
Maintain knowledge of current safety regulations, laws, and traffic control procedures.
Equipment & Crew Management
Oversee the loading, transportation, setup, and maintenance of traffic control devices (cones, signs, arrow boards, crash trucks, etc.). Train, mentor, and evaluate crew members on proper traffic control procedures and safety protocols.
Report equipment needs, damages, or maintenance issues to yard or fleet management.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- A valid Traffic Control Supervisor certification (state-specific, e.g., ATSSA or equivalent)
- At least 2+ years of experience in traffic control or construction with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role
- A valid driver’s license with a clean MVR; CDL preferred
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and DOT physical
- A strong understanding of MUTCD guidelines, state DOT standards, and local permit requirements
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs
