Traffic Control Laborer

OTHRFull-time

Responsibilities

  • Safely direct traffic using hand signals, signs, and stop/slow paddles
  • Set up, position, and remove traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, and warning signs
  • Maintain traffic flow by adjusting control methods based on traffic conditions
  • Communicate clearly with crew members, supervisors, and the public to coordinate traffic movement
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and traffic control plans
  • Maintain a safe work zone by identifying and addressing potential hazards
  • Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including high-visibility gear
  • Assist with general labor tasks related to roadwork or construction when needed
  • Report incidents, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues promptly to supervisors
  • Remain alert and focused in a fast-paced, high-risk environment near moving traffic

Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (often required)
  • Certification in traffic control/flagging (e.g., OSHA or state-approved flagger certification)
  • Ability to understand and follow traffic control plans and safety procedures
  • Strong communication skills to interact with drivers, coworkers, and supervisors
  • Basic knowledge of road construction safety practices and traffic laws
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift equipment, and work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Dependability and punctuality
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime
